Waco based Brazos County Electric Cooperative has been in bankruptcy negotiations ever since the Texas winter storm of 2021.
They have worked with ERCOT on figuring out a solution to pay off their debt.
The Coop had to buy wholesale electricity at multiples many times over a reasonable price to continue delivering electricity to their members.
The cooperative ended up buying electricity at $9,000 a megawatt hour.
This debt has been partially handled by an agreement to sell off their power plants.
When Brazos sells the power plants they will be an electric service distributor but no longer a generator for the Waco area and the 19 other areas they serve.
