ElectricRates.com happened upon this lady’s electric bill from MPower Energy (also known as MPE&G LLC. She is a low-income energy customer and had door to door sales people with MPower Energy (also known as MPE&G LLC) approach her and switch her from 10 cents per kWh to 19.7 cents per kWh.
They offered her savings if she switched to MPower Energy so of course she did and the promise of “Green Energy” was icing on the cake.
The reality she experienced was seeing her electric rate increase by about double the amount.
She was paying 10 cents per kWh an the new electric rate with MPower Energy ended up being 19.7 cents per kWh.
She was able to get some assistance from volunteers who helped do an electric bill audit to see what happened however this is a scary situation when the prospect of having your electric service cut-off becomes a reality.
She received an electric service disconnect notice from Baltimore Gas and Electric who bills her but is not responsible for what the MPower Energy door to door sales people did.
Baltimore Gas and Electric controls the poles and wires and still can offer electric service to customers as the incumbent provider in the area. BGE is like the bearer of bad news.
