This elderly lady was paying only 8.298 cents/kWh but some door to door sales people came knocking. MPE&G doubled elderly lady’s fixed electric rate from the 8.298 cents/kWh rate to the now 17 cents/kWh rate she now has.
MPE&G is also known as the Texas electricity provider brand MPower Energy.
They convinced her that by switching she would save money from what she was currently paying.
So how does being switched off a fixed electric rate plan that charges 8.298 cents per kWh to a plan that charges 17 cents per kWh save her money?
The bill does not break down the electric rate into a rate that can be compared with her previous electric provider BGE so some calculations have to be performed.
Many people accept an trust what the convincing sales people say until months later when the electric bill keeps reminding them that they were tricked.
This is a a sad reality but millions of people have found themselves in similar situations as this elderly lady an of those quite a big percentage are elderly or in low-income neighborhoods.
