Are these green plans truly 100 % green Texas electricity and what do these terms really mean from a legal standpoint? Green Texas electricity, a green ad bonanza, that has invaded Texas and the rest of the country is a marketing ploy similar to “organic” food or “free range” chickens.

Political Window Dressing is What Green Electricity Is

Businesses play politics and capitalize on what will win the approval of their customers. Just like politicians business will try and win new customers and if green renewable electricity is what customers want it will be offered.

There are organizations that come up with a marketing designation for what can be officially approved to be “green electricity” or “free range” or “organic”. The organizations make money designating and approving of these marketing labels.

Politicians have used the renewable energy designation to win votes and make backroom deals for businesses in the solar, Renewable Energy Credit, and power generation business.

What is Green Washing as it relates to Advertised Renewable Electric Service?

A proxy system was created called the Renewable Energy Credit system that gives virtual credit to companies for purchasing these credits. Businesses and politicians cannot control what electrons come into your home or business.

Texas electric companies buy these REC’s in order to fulfill the requirements of the politicians political window dressing. The politicians can take great pride that they have gotten so many Texas energy businesses to comply and actually advertise as, “good”, their proxy system as 100% renewable energy. Politicians that are for the green energy movement want you to believe they accomplished that.

There are plenty of farmers who don’t truly believe their crops meet the requirements of the word “organic”. Organization that approve of the use of the label, organic, will still allow the label in the most loose standards imagined. The similarities between the organic label and renewable label are remarkable.

The “Renewable Energy” designation is a joke in the industry and there are a lot of smirks on energy executive faces regarding the reality that their energy is 100% renewable. They know that their electric service is not even close to 100% renewable but businesses jump through hoops and play that game because that is how the system is setup.

REC’s offer a small subsidy to Texas wind and solar farms to remain profitable but are not actually a 1:1 ratio of turning Texas electricity 100% renewable by any stretch of the imagination.

There are Production Tax Credits and Investment Tax Credits for Wind and Solar that are paid for by your federal income taxes. The renewable energy market is raising your taxes whether it’s obvious to you or not.

Why reinforce a political scheme of power politics manipulating the masses? We recommend doing your personal part to live responsibly. What you consider living responsibility is a personal matter but REC’s and federal taxes going to solar and wind farms is not responsible in any way.
