Not all electric cooperatives in Texas have performed well. Many cooperatives like the one I am in have done very well. I personally use Cherokee County Electric Cooperative and my rate has always been competitive with the rest of the state.

A Waco based electric Cooperative had very big trouble from the winter storm of 2021. The Brazos Electric Cooperative was forced to buy wholesale electricity about 100 times the price they would normally to keep their customers electric service on.

The Cooperative ended up with a lot of debt because of the winter storm and how they executed their risk management strategy in buying energy. It is important that the electric service cooperative you are using has a good leadership team that is executing the business well for their members.
